1. Shiro

Shiro is a flour blend prepared from legumes, herbs and spices. It is used to make a savory stew known for its high fiber and high protein contents.

Shiro has many varieties made from :

  • chick pea
  • yellow split peas
  • broad beans
  • or combinations of the above legumes

These peas and beans are low-glycemic index foods, meaning they  have low carbohydrate and have a slower, sustained release of glucose  with more gradual effect on blood sugar levels compared to high-glycemic index foods. This can be helpful with weight control and for people with diabetes in managing their blood sugar levels. 

They have high fiber content promoting regular bowel movements and preventing constipation. Additionally it promotes beneficial gut bacteria helping improve gut health.

Chick peas are high in folate (Vitamin) but have some digestibility issue with some people.  Split peas are often easier for digestion. For complete protein build with balanced nutrition one can have a healthy meal of Shiro with Injera (Ethiopain flat sour bread made of Teff).

We provide tailored made Shiro flour as per your requirements. A creamier/nuttier taste, for more micronutrients like folate and higher overall calorie density for energy you can choose chickpeas. For maximum fiber,  lower calories and easier digestion split peas are best.
